Yesterday I overheard a conversation from my neighbors.

It sounded like a younger woman who recently discovered that she is pregnant and the whole family was giving advise on what she “actually” needs to buy.

(I will not go into overhearing formula milk and bottles)

But the fear of this woman birthing. It didn’t come as a surprise to me.. I hear this a lot, the terrible fear of having to go through Labour.

Hearing how this young woman doesn’t believe in herself that she can do it makes me question..

Where does this come from?

Is a woman’s body not designed to do exactly that.

Do we not realize that every person on this planet came through birth.

That the first Epidural only came around 100 years ago, that C-sections only really came 80 years ago.

Did these woman have powers that we don’t have anymore?

How come we have ended in a world so disconnected to our bodies, our abilities, to nature, to power and trust.

I took deep breaths to not scream across the fence;

-“YOU CAN DO IT”

Good news is that my neighbor (who is a really great Uruguayan man) started telling her that she can do it that she needs to find a great midwife, that his mother gave birth to 12 children and his great grandmother gave birth to 10 children. But started normalizing birth. Not sure how much she listed but we need more stories from woman to woman (or man in this case) that tell positive, true birth stories and less terrifying once.

Yes birth can be powerful and intense but let’s talk about how we felt after we did it. The moment we hold our baby’s in our arms. The moment we realize WE DID IT!!

Because we have superpowers 🦹

ree

I feel empowered, I feel rooted, I feel blessed, I feel strong, I feel brave, I feel like a woman, I feel like I have completed what I was meant to do.

.

I gave birth!

.

My body grew a human inside for 39 weeks, a little human being.

All I had to do was let it, it just happens, my organs shifted, my blood increased, my boobs started producing milk, just like that. All I had to do was nourish, refuel, relax and sleep a LOT!!

.

Then birth came.. it came slow.. it started getting intense.. it was very intense… it was powerful.. I was powerful.. my body was powerful.. because my body could.. my body was Programmed do to so..

I never felt more alive!!

And then birth was done.

.

Looking back on it I have never felt anything more empowering, I have never felt so proud of myself, I have never felt more connected with my self, my femininity.

.

I have gained confidence in my power!!

.

We need to give that power feeling back to the birthing woman. It’s her power and no one else’s.
